Bio:
Mya Onwugbonu is 22 year-old creative, at the beginning of her career in the arts. She self-published her first poetry book, ‘consciousness’ in 2021, and has gone on to perform her poetry throughout the UK. With several years of training in Music, Theatre and Film, Mya has begun creating and directing her own work. After debuting her first spoken word play, Hear Me Now, at sold-out shows at Southwark Playhouse (Nov 2022) and VAULT Festival (Feb 2023), Onwugbonu is paving the way for her trailblazing career. Her show Hear Me Now went on to win ‘Show of the Week’ at VAULT Festival 2023. Now, as an award-winning director and writer, Onwugbonu has begun working with Tower Theatre as an Assistant Director with the production, hang (Mar 2023) and debut-play In Hiding (Jun/Jul 2023). Mya Onwugbonu has recently joined the new cohort of Talawa Theatre Company’s TYPT 2023. This is just the start of Mya Onwugbonu’s career, her work ethic, determination and enthusiasm will help levitate her in this industry.
